Lorrie Sullenberger's Causes
Guide Dogs for the Blind
As an avid dog lover, Lorrie has been a Guide Dogs for the Blind volunteer for over 20 years. She first became involved with the organization as a way to give back to the community, but it has become much more than that for Lorrie. In an effort to keep the breeding dogs from living out their lives in a kennel, Guide Dogs places these dogs with volunteer families with what are known as Breeder Custodians. In 2000 they became "custodians" to Lorrie's beloved Twinkle, an adorable and energetic yellow lab.
Governor's Council on Physical Fitness
Lorrie serves as a Regional Ambassador for the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and is a guest speaker at schools and organizations throughout California, addressing issues such as childhood obesity and women's fitness.
Big Brother Big Sister
Lorrie was first matched with her "Little Sister" Sara From the Big Brother Big Sister program in October 1985 and the two remain close, even though Sara is now an adult with children of her own.
Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation
Lorrie along with her husband Sully were recently honored with The Hope Award for their decades long work with newborn kittens with ARF. Lorrie has long been a firm believer that the human/animal bond has beneficial benefits for everyone involved, and so have always been strong supporters of her local animal shelters.
